Jeff Hannan (Partner) founded 158 Ventures in 2001 through its predecessor organization (Strata Partners, LLC). For over 20 years, Jeff has worked on a wide variety of venture development, investment, and advisory projects across industries including technology, financial services, consumer products, sports & entertainment, and education.

In addition, Jeff has worked for over two decades on the forefront of social purpose venture development with a focus on youth services, community development, job training, and education.  Through the course of this work, Jeff has worked extensively with the California Department of Education as well as serving in key roles as the Enterprise Development Director for the nationally acclaimed Jacobs Family Foundation’s Market Creek Community Ownership Initiative in San Diego, as a Board Member for the Cal South Community Development Bank venture fund, and as a Farber Fellow with REDF (Roberts Enterprise Development Fund) / Juma Ventures in San Francisco.

Prior to founding 158 Ventures, Jeff worked as an investment banker with the firms Kidder Peabody, Wedbush Morgan, and Merrill Lynch where he focused on initial public offerings, secondary offerings, business valuations, and capital raising engagements. He has served as an Instructor of Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, and Business Plan Writing at the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA – Anderson School, and FIDM – Los Angeles.

Jeff received his BA from the University of Rhode Island, where he was a Full Scholarship Athlete and a Kopp Foundation award recipient, and holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management. While at UCLA, Jeff was awarded a Wolfen Entrepreneurial Studies Fellowship and served as a Program Director for the Venture Development Program. As a Doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania (ABD), Jeff served as a Researcher and Instructor of Social and Educational Entrepreneurship.

Jeff and his wife Julie have three children and reside in San Marino, CA.  Jeff is an active member of his local community having served as a Board member for a wide variety of educational, athletic and charitable organizations. 

Thomas Hannan (Venture Partner) – Holds a BS degree in Computer Science from MIT.  As an undergraduate student at MIT, he served as a teaching assistant and examination grader in advanced algorithms. In addition, Thomas was a pitcher on the MIT baseball team and three-time Academic All Conference selection while helping his team capture the 2019 NEWMAC championship. Thomas, holds a Graduate certificate in Business Management and Entrepreneurship from UC Berkeley where, as a grad transfer, he pitched for the Cal Bears PAC12 baseball team.

Thomas has previously worked as a software engineer for Meta (Facebook), Amazon, Idealab, and Caltech, before launching three startups.
